This website is a resource for information created for cancer patients, physicians and nutritionists. Our focus is on methionine restriction as a potent tool for enhancing cancer therapies and reducing the risk of cancer recurrences. Methionine restriction has been studied and applied for over 10 years by the Nutritional Oncology Research Institute. Recently, a major advancement has been achieved by Dr. Robert Hoffman of Anticancer, Inc. which is the development of an enzyme called methioninase. This is an orally administered enzyme that degrades methionine within the digestive tract. Methioninase has enormous therapeutic potential in treating all forms of cancer. We are at the very early stage of clinical application of methioninase which is added to a methionine restricted diet to bring plasma methionine very close to zero. Without methionine, cancer cells are unable to grow and divide. This is called cell cycle arrest. Additionally, without methionine, cancer cells are weakened and become much more susceptible to all forms of treatment. Therefore, a combination of a methionine restricted diet and methioninase is a powerful addition to one's cancer treatment plan.
